Facebook filters messages from people you aren't good friends with. Normally, this is good-- most of these messages are pure spam. How to find hidden messages on Facebook
To look for your surprise messages, open up Facebook on the desktop. Then, tap the Messages icon in the top right. In the menu that pops up below, you'll see that "Message Requests" is grayed out alongside "Recent.".
